DayZ is an open-world multiplayer survival game set in the post-Soviet fictional country of Chernarus, following a zombie apocalypse. Players spawn with nothing and must scavenge food, water, weapons, and supplies while avoiding infection from the undead and the constant threat of other players.\n\nThe game is known for its brutal, unforgiving design — permadeath means every character loss is permanent, wiping all gathered gear. Encounters with other survivors are unpredictable, ranging from tense cooperation to deadly player-versus-player confrontations, which drives much of the game's tension and replayability.\n\nDayZ originated as a mod for Arma 2 in 2012 before becoming a standalone title in early access in 2013. After a lengthy development period, the full release arrived in December 2018 for PC, followed by console versions in 2019. Bohemia Interactive continues to support the game with updates and community-run private servers remain widely popular.
