Fallout 76 is an online multiplayer action RPG set in the post-apocalyptic world of Appalachia, a fictionalized version of West Virginia. Released as the first multiplayer entry in the Fallout series, players emerge from Vault 76 on Reclamation Day to explore a vast open world filled with mutated creatures, nuclear hazards, and the remnants of pre-war civilization.
Players can explore solo or team up with others to complete quests, build and manage C.A.M.P. settlements, craft weapons and armor, and engage in optional PvP combat. The game features a progression system with S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes, perks, and legendary gear that can be traded or found throughout the world.
Since launch, Bethesda has substantially expanded the game through major updates including Wastelanders (which added human NPCs and voiced dialogue), Steel Dawn, The Pitt, and Atlantic City expansions. The game transitioned to a free-to-play model with an optional Fallout 1st subscription for premium benefits.
